The systematic chemical name of MDAI is 5,6-Methylenedioxy-2-aminoindane and this interesting compound has been specially synthesized in Indian laboratories to produce the most potent MDAI ever created. MDAI is indirectly derived from MDA, however the alpha-methyl group of the alkylamino amphetamine side chain has been bound to the benzene nucleus to form an indane ring system, which changes its chemical properties significantly.
